Presenting the extremely rare Grand Seiko “SkyBridge” !
The dial, meant to convey clouds over a clear, rural Chinese lake, are much like the texture of the SBGA413 and 415. Unlike those watches, this color never really “mutes,” and is brilliant and vivid even in relatively low light. The power reserve on this Spring Drive changes from a clear silver to a deep gold, symbolizing sunlight casting through clouds and onto the surface of water.
Other gold accents like the GS logo and the seconds hand pop.
The watch case mimics the classic SBGA211: the indexes are trapezoidal, the stance in the wrist is sporty, and the dial is 41mm. Because of the robust bezel, this watch wears a bit smaller on the wrist.
While Grand Seiko has publicized that there are 222 of these available, only 181 are rumored to exist, as the few people who have obtained this exclusive Chinese release report that no examples were made that contain the number “4,” considered unlucky in several Eastern cultures.
This is my favorite of the three big “baby blue” Grand Seiko Spring Drives: it’s sporty, unique, and simply beautiful!
